King (Chinook) Salmon Facts

At Waterfall, the Salmon that you catch are fighters. The difference between catching
a salmon in the ocean and in the stream is as follows:
While in the ocean, the salmon
are hungry. They are feeding, and getting ready for their long voyage upstream. The meat
is more dense and tasty.
When they go into the streams, they stop eating and they go through a metamorphosis.
Their heads change shape, and they change color. Different salmon turn different colors.
After the salmon spawn, they die. This is a one-way trip!
The Salmon follow the same general migration pattern every year. In May and June, the
King Salmon are plentiful. In July through September, silver and coho salmon are
plentiful.
Average King Salmon caught at Waterfall are 30 lbs. The Waterfall Record is 78.8 lbs.
At Waterfall, we use the fishing style called mooching. No downrigging.
